Our Staff

Rev. Karen Mendes – Pastor

A graduate of Middlebury College and Andover Newton Theological School, Rev. Karen A. Mendes was ordained in 1996. She was called to First Baptist Church, Burlington as their Interim Pastor in September of 2012 and was installed as their Pastor in May of 2014. Rev. Mendes lives in Essex Junction, Vermont with her husband and two children.

Marie Morton – Administrative Assistant

Marie joined First Baptist Church in February 2007 and became the church office Administrative Assistant in January 2012. She previously worked in an elementary school office as an administrative assistance for 28 years.
In her spare time, Marie enjoys being actively involved in the Order of the Eastern Star for over 35 years.  She also enjoys reading, gardening, playing cards, dancing, taking long walks and exercising at the gym.

Steve holds a B.S. in Music Education from the University of Maine, Orono and a Master’s Degree in Education from St. Michael’s College.  Most of his career was teaching instrumental and orchestral music in public schools.  The later years found him as a high school principal and then a superintendent of schools. Enjoyment is still found making music with his friends and tending to the Shetland Sheep farm in Williston with his wife Brenda. Retirement is wonderful!
